Exorcise Renny
With so many sequels and prequels coming out this year, the Exorcist prequel looked like the most promising. I’ve always been a huge fan of the original film and put it up there as one of the best and scariest horror films. The prequel was originally directed by Paul Schrader (writer of Taxi Driver and director of Auto Focus) and was rumoured to be in the tone of the original, focusing on story rather than gore. But when executives decided they didn’t like what they saw, they hired Renny Harlin (director of that piece of crap known as Cut Throat Island) to take over the directing reigns. They claimed they needed a director to put in some rotating heads, projectile vomit and all the rest to make it successful. So in walked Renny and out walked Schrader, along with a few cast members.
Now, a recent article on comingsoon.net states that the film will have NONE of Schrader’s footage intact. Apparently the new version has plenty of gore, green pea soup and probably none of Schrader’s darker undertones. Executives still don’t understand that the most successful horror films are the ones with story first, effects later. I’d like to be pleasantly surprised of course but I guarantee that first trailer will look like a typical, Renny Harlin, crapfest. Prove me wrong, Renny, prove me wrong.

Warners has kicked off Paul Schrader for a man with THIS resume. No way is this film going to be any good.
The Long Kiss Goodnight had it’s moments. But then again, TLKG had Samuel Jackson.

Actually, Nick, the movie was good, probably better than Schrader’s. The reason why they fired him it’s because he didn’t make the movie good or scary enough.
Well yall just don’t give Renny a chance to fix the problem. I know he might’ve done bad in the past, but i don’t see anything wrong with the Exorcist movie he made.
Maribel - I saw the Renny Exorcist version and it was a pile of crap. Maybe in a MTV kinda way you could possibly appreciate it but if you use the original as a basis, the new version is pure shit. Renny can’t keep the camera still for a second and that’s what makes the original so great. Atmosphere, suspense, tension. Those are three words Renny doesn’t know.
