Music videos have always had a profound impact on my life. I grew up watching RAGE either late on a Friday night or early on a Saturday morning. RAGE has been like an institution for a lot of music lovers here in Australia for over 20 years because it\rquote s just 10 hours straight of uninterrupted music videos.

It was RAGE which first introduced me to my favourite music videos of all-time. Just to name a few these include Aphex Twin\rquote s Come to Daddy, Michael Jackson\rquote s Thriller and Billie Jean, Massive Attack’s Teardrop, Prodigy’s Smack My Bitch Up, The Cardigan’s My Favourite Game, Run-DMC and Jason Nevins It’s Like That, Beyonce’s Crazy in Love, Radiohead’s Karma Police, U.N.K.L.E’s Rabbit in Your Headlights , The White Stripes The Hardest Button to Button and pretty much everything from Bjork.

I was recently lucky enough to be given a Bjork’s Volumen: Greatest Hits DVD featuring all of her best music videos. All Is Full Of Love, Human Behaviour and It’s Oh So Quiet are amongst the collection. Directors such as Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze began their careers making Bjork’s music videos (and still do the occasion clips) and have since gone onto making features. For me, this collection is really inspiring because they all go outside the box of the standard band-on-a-stage format and go to show that music videos can be just as powerful pieces of art as other forms of popular culture.
