Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence

[ Never seen a Manga film? Then you're missing out ]

The original Ghost in the Shell is considered one of the best Manga films ever made and heavily influenced the Matrix trilogy. Those of you who have seen it will know what I\rquote m talking about. For those who haven\rquote t, it\rquote s probably best to get your ass down to the video store right now and rent it this very minute. It\rquote s excellent if you like Manga and animation (although my favourite Manga film is Ninja Scroll. Rent that too while you\rquote re at it).

Mamoru Oshii, director of the original Ghost in the Shell, has been developing a sequel entitled Innocence: K’f4kaku kid’f4tai and it\rquote s been selected for screenings at this years Cannes Film Festival. This time around Oshii has opted to use a combination of 2D and 3D animation which looks like it has worked beautifully.

But don\rquote t take my word for it, download the trailer here and see for yourself. I challenge anyone to give me an Australian release date at the moment but I\rquote m sure it will be showing at an Astor or Nova cinema some time this year. Fingers crossed.

Yeah I am another NINJA SCROLL fan. Holds up real well to repeated viewings. I bought VAMPIRE HUNTER D cheap on DVD and am wondering if it holds up. I was rather tired when I first saw it in a 24-hour marathon. GHOST II looks interesting. I found the first one a bit dull but I also need to give it a proper screening.

Been looking forward to this since it was confirmed Oshii was doing another. I consider GITS a masterpiece in cinema film and needs several viewings to full understand (as does almost every Oshii film).

Australian release should be end of the year - maybe… depends on Dreamworks since they have the distribution rights in the US. I hope they hand it over to Madman for release - they’d do a decent job of it.

Speaking of the Matrix - watched Revolutions again on DVD last night. What a load of shite.
Ghost in the Shell is amazing. Can’t wait for the sequel…

I was googling for an Australian release date on Innocence and came across this post. Have you had any luck in finding out a date?

I watched quite a few of the Stand Alone Complex episodes when the box set was first available in Australia but the translations on the subtitles were awful. I wonder if they have released a copy with updated subtitles.

    thanks. later!
