Strike!

[ No I wasn't passed out on the floor taking this shot ]

Ahhh. Ten-pin bowling under the influence can be a lot of fun especially when you know you can bowl reasonably well sober but then completely fuck up when you\rquote re drinking. We’re talking bowling as if aiming for the gutter here, slipping on your ass countless times and rolling the ball down the wrong lane. Of course, The Big Lebowski quotes started flying thick and fast although I’m sure my friends had no idea what the hell I was blabbering on about. But the words “Shut the fuck up Donnie!” were used to great effect. Thankfully it didn’t get down to ” Mark it fucking zero!”.

The Green Institution

[ Early morning Thursday reading ]

For those for you that read physical newspapers as opposed to the online variety, are no doubt aware of Thursday\rquote s supplement in The Age called \lquote The Green Guide\rquote . This \lquote entertainment\rquote guide has been like an institution for me for as long as I can remember. At first, it was sort of simple, basically giving you the weeks television guide and a few articles here and there. Now it\rquote s almost become a fully-fledged magazine covering all aspects of television, radio, technical gadgets, computer accessories (Mac and PC) and DVD, movie and music reviews. The articles are continuously interesting and well-written but my favourite read is the viewer feedback section. I found this letter in today\rquote s edition that just goes to show how great Channel 7 is with its presentation of movies. I watched a little of Pulp Fiction on TV last week as well and got pretty damn annoyed with it. One letter, I think printed in last weeks edition was pretty funny where one of the viewers wrote in just to say they appreciated the staples in the guide. The fact that staples were enough for make this person incredibly satisfied (enough to write a letter, pay for a stamp and send it in) just goes to show how important the guide is for some people.

James Cameron’s Next Feature

[ Cameron on the set of Aliens ]

A question that nearly everyone seems to ask me from time to time is \ldblquote when is James Cameron going to make his next feature film?\rdblquote . That\rquote s been a bloody difficult question to answer. Ever since making monumental amounts of cash with his last feature Titanic in 1997, Cameron has taken a step back from feature films and done some fairly average side projects. He\rquote s hinted on a few features, one of which was Spiderman but at that time it was going through all sorts of legal entanglements and he passed on the project. Then he was going to make a film set on Mars but that fell through. Another rumoured project was from a script he wrote entitled Avatar which consisted of photo-realistic CGI characters set on a distant planet. Unfortunately a proposed budget of US$350 million(!) put that one on the back burner. During these failed attempts, Cameron moved on to television.
