Okay sue me. I’m entitled to one drink after an extremely difficult final essay to write and having completed most of my exams. Have you all missed me? I thought so.

I was going to write a review for The Day After Tomorrow but you’re not going to miss much. It deserves 2/4 at most. I am going to write a review for the Dawn of the Dead remake in the next couple of days though since it’s the most fun I’ve spent watching a b-zombie flick in years. And I’m going to see that small indie-flick about wizards and magic in the next few days too.

He Shoots, He Scores 

[ For Those Who Like to Score ]

When you walk out of the theatre and emerge into the daylight, what’s the first thing about the film you talk about? Nine times out of ten, I’m guessing it’s something visual - the special effects, the cinematography or the acting. However I’ve yet to hear someone walk out and say “I loved the score in that movie!”. If it’s something auditory, the majority of people would more likely say “The soundtrack was great”, referring to the annoying commercial pop songs.

I’ve been a huge fan of Robert Rodriguez as a filmmaker for as long as I can remember. He’s one of those Generation X’ers who watched a lot of films as a kid and just wanted to make films his life. He started from small beginnings, subjecting himself to medical testing in order to fund his films and once his film El Mariachi became a hit at Sundance in 1993, he got the bigger budgets and was thrown offers left, right and centre. I also admire his tenacity to do anything and everything within the filmmaking arena - he directs, produces, writes, edits and shoots the films himself. And like Tarantino, he generally makes ‘cool’ motion pictures. But with Once Upon a Time in Mexico all I can say is ‘
“What a shame!”.
