Karaoke @ The Laundry
![[ Yeah it does kinda look like grainy 16mm film aye? ]](http://hooverdust.com/version2/wp-content/images//Laundry_karaoke.jpg)
Ah Karaoke. I’ve had a love/hate relationship with it in the past (mostly hate) although I do remember singing Imagine and California Girls with a group of friends a few years back that was a hellva lot of fun. I distinctly remember seeing one man propose to his girlfriend, singing a Barry Manilow tune that was well’85 outta tune. I couldn’t stop laughing but at the same time she did say yes so I guess he’s done the karaoke venture many times before in front of her, no surprises there. What shits me most with karaoke is the hardcore serial karaoke fans who do it every week and think they can sing when they’re fucking terrible. I was brought up to believe that if you really suck at whatever you’re doing after countless attempts, you should probably give it up. The serial offenders tend to do it sober as well which completely defeats the purpose of it in a pub/club environment. The fact these people enjoy it doesn’t make it right either. I say enter them all into the next series of Australian Idol and let Australia give them a reality check. It may be the only way.
But on occasions karaoke can be fun and painless and last night was definitely that. I went down to the Laundry in Fitzroy for some ‘Extreme Karaoke’ with a bunch of friends and acquaintances. I’ve finished every formal class of my University life so a night out was welcome. I didn’t perform last night (yeah I know you’re all deeply saddened by that fact) as I was shooting footage for my shift worker documentary although I did have enough to drink in the end to get up there and give them my kick-ass rendition of The Strokes Last Nite. Probably best that I didn’t since my friends turned out to be fucken superstars compared to me. In-between filming for the doco, I filmed a couple of their performances which you can check out below. Remember they were pretty intoxicated so they did unbelievably well considering the circumstances. One of them has already got himself a fan base there. Come on dude, you know you love all the attention! ;)
One thing I’ve gotta stop doing when I go out is plug this site. How many of you fellow bloggers do that with strangers? I swear it’s a jinx because every time I mention it to someone, they never visit. I was talking to a friend of a friend last night who I got along with really well and had more than a few things in common with but the moment I mentioned the site, I could tell I was jinxed. She actually didn’t care that I brought it up and seemed genuinely interested in seeing the site but I still felt like a spell had been cast. So if I don’t hear from her again, then I can safely say that anyone else won’t be hearing about hooverdust.com on our initial encounter :D

I luv the Elliott Smith album! Sad that he passed away though.
