Mrs Robinson, You’re Trying To Seduce Me

The Graduate is a film that will no doubt stand the test of time, a multi-generational example of universal themes that will entertain audiences for years to come. Yeah I know I sound like a promotional ad for the movie but I hadn’t seen the film until last night. And what a great film it is! Yeah I know. Shoot me already but I’d been wanting to catch it for so long, especially at the Astor (it screened just under a month ago too!). And I’d seen just about all the pop culture references to the film (and there are many! My personal fav: Frank the Tank in Old School). I guess part of the reason for seeing it was knowing that the director Mike Nichols made the very impressive recent drama Closer and his knack for smart screenplays and performance-oriented cinema interested me.

Caught myself a delicious repeat viewing of Napolean Dynamite, an awesome little movie that actually got better the second time. You can quote that movie all week long and never get tired of it. In fact, I’ll make things a little easier and you can check out the completely funny and pointless Napoleon soundboard to remind yourself how funny this movie is.
