X&Y delivers in spades! 

[ COLDPLAY - It's all about the universe ]

It’s simple yet progressive. It’s ambitious yet restrained. It’s more U2 than Radiohead. It’s got a level of Brian Eno mixed in. It’s Coldplay’s X&Y. I think what the band have managed to achieve is reaching that grey area between being fantastic pop musicians and creating a credible Indie presence. The quality of songs from beginning to end on X&Y are arguably higher than those from their previous records. Perhaps the most surprising aspect of the album is the lyrics which one might assume would include frontman Chris Martin’s relationship with Gwyneth or the birth of their daughter. Sure you could find the references here and there but not in an obvious way. It’s not all happy, sappy either.

Poker Night #1 

This is how it's done!

I’m not really a gambling man. The reason is quite simple - it’s addictive. And generally anything that is addictive is not very good for you. But like anything addictive, if taken in moderation, can be a hellva lot of fun. The trick is not to become, well, addicted. Excellent. Glad I got that sorted! Last nights poker night was great fun though and being a relative newbie to Texas Hold em, I picked it up pretty quickly. The cigars rolled out, the booze was plentiful and the sharks began to circle. Luckily no-one lost any houses, cars or the very clothes off their back so you could say it was a successful evening. More to come in the near future no doubt. More photos of the night here.

In Foot I Trust

First up - I’ve fucked my ankle. I realise that’s not what you come here for but I’ll make any excuse to post my foot on the site. You can’t really tell from the photo but believe me it’s painful. I rolled it helping a mate move and it kills when I walk too far. Check out those toes though. Tell me they’re not sexy!
