Poker Night #1
I’m not really a gambling man. The reason is quite simple - it’s addictive. And generally anything that is addictive is not very good for you. But like anything addictive, if taken in moderation, can be a hellva lot of fun. The trick is not to become, well, addicted. Excellent. Glad I got that sorted! Last nights poker night was great fun though and being a relative newbie to Texas Hold em, I picked it up pretty quickly. The cigars rolled out, the booze was plentiful and the sharks began to circle. Luckily no-one lost any houses, cars or the very clothes off their back so you could say it was a successful evening. More to come in the near future no doubt. More photos of the night here.
Got my Sigur Ros tickets. Managed to get stall seating which has to be a first for a seated gig. Once you check out my photos come August, you’ll see what you’re missing if you haven’t already got tickets. I can sense a gig-of-the-year award already.
Finally, I received an e-mail from a colleague of the infamous musical baton. It’s a blog thang:
Total volume of music files on my computer:
23 GB in 4110 files, lasting 12.4 days (Should really be at least triple that to have any real substance)
The last CD I bought was:
Coldplay - X&Y (pre-ordered!)
Song playing right now:
“Hell Yes” by Beck from Guero (You can’t help but feel cool when listening to this album, especially walking down the street with your iPod firmly attached! I nearly busted into a groove on the street just the other day!)
Five songs I listen to a lot, or that mean a lot to me:
“Take You On A Cruise” by Interpol
“Day Texas Sank To The Bottom Of The Sea” by Micah P. Hinson
“Fake Plastic Trees” by Radiohead
“An Ending (Ascent)” by Brian Eno
“Twilight” by Elliott Smith
Five people to whom I’m passing the baton:
My readers (although I think I’m reaching to find more than two!). Most of the blogging community have already done it so if you don’t have a blog, start commenting!

The last CD I bought was:
Ben Folds - Songs for Silverman
Song playing right now:
“Amsterdam” Coldplay
Five songs I listen to a lot, or that mean a lot to me:
“Lost Myself” by Longpigs
“A Case of You” by Joni Mitchell
“Here There & Everywhere” by The Beatles
“Peace Frog” by The Doors
“Red Hill Mining Town” by U2
Sigur Ros performance eh? If there\rquote s any tickets left I might go along to it. I reckon if you\rquote re a fan of Sigur Ros and Daft Punk I highly recommend R’f6yksopp’s debut album “Melody A.M.” I’m eagerly awaiting their second album “The Understanding” which is to be released next month. It’ll be a good test to see if their talent goes beyond that debut album one hit wonder phase.
Not cheap though dude. $75 a pop! (although that’s what I expected)
I bought your sister R’f6yksopp’s “Melody A.M.” for Xmas ‘03 cos I really rate it too.
I declined the opportunity to buy a ticket earlier in the week, and will be kicking myself if I don’t manage to get one now that I’ve changed my mind. They have, apparently, one of the best light shows in the business, so hold on.
James, where’d you guys play? That looks like it would have been mad fun, flow an invite next round dude, I watch the Pro tour on TV, I know what the fuck is up :D. My favorite of the shots you took was definitely “Smoke It Up”.
I heard the latest Cold Play release on the radio driving home tonight, and I’m afraid I can’t shake that feeling that, as Reuben said, their talent didn’t stretch past their first, and best, album (and no, I’m not implying that they aren’t talented at all). I’ll listen to the new one hoping to see something more than I already have, but if I don’t then I’m afraid that’s how it’s going to have to be..
5 Songs Right Now:
1: The Sand Pebbles - Moving Too Fast
2: P.G. Six - Crooked Way
3: The Doors - The Soft Parade (the song.)
4: The Chameleons - Tomorrow Never Knows
5: The Arcade Fire - Wake Up
My digital music collection = 14 Gig. I buy about as much music as I download, and that’s how I justify now feeling geekily embarassed. :D
PEACE!
