Piven Robbed!

Jeremy Piven deserved the Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Entourage). Not fucking Brad Garrett from Everybody Loves Raymond (who has won it twice before!). Which reminds me, check out Everybody Hates Chris. Bound to be hilarious.

Lost won shit loads of awards and deservedly so. Those of you who felt a little cheated with the first season should be pleased to know that much will be revealed in the first few episodes of season 2 (premiering in the US this Thursday). My prediction is that if the revelations aren’t substantial and original enough, people will turn that dial.

Harry Potter 4

No Harry has not become a Jedi but rather he’s using his magic in the new trailer that just hit the world.

Gone is director Alfonso Cuarón and in comes Mike Newell. Judging from the trailer this one is more concerned with special effects and action and it has a lot to live up to considering The Prisoner of Azkaban was a very decent picture in its own right, regardless of the Harry Potter hype attached. Newell is an interesting choice of director and a capable one definately but I only really enjoyed Donnie Brasco from his filmography. Four Weddings and a Funeral was OKAY back in 1994 but Hugh Grant capitalising on his own frumpty one-dimensional character since then has made me avoid it altogether. And was Mona Lisa Smile any good? Anyone? Did anyone actually see it?

Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah the trailer. Looks better than the first two Potters, some f/x work could be improved and some of the score they use seems a little inappropriate but overall I dug it enough to get me to the theatres come December (November for the US).

Zoom In

Shower Head
Purchased a Tamron 70 - 300mm lense last week because I wanted a decent zoom lense to add to my collection. I didn’t realise it at the time but it also has a macro feature built-in which comes in handy since I don’t own a dedicated macro lense yet. I also purchased polarising and UV filters for it too only to smash the former on the concrete within two minutes of using it. Fucking moron I know. I tried returning it but as a mate pointed out “they don’t refund stupidity”. No shit!

One thing about the lense, as opposed to my two Canon ones, is that it doesn’t feel cheaply made. Solidly built, performs well enough and has a good depth of field (especially in the macro setting). For AU$350 it’s not a bad purchase and since I’m a complete amateur, it’s a good starting point. I wanted a faster lense of course for shooting live music (anything with a f/2.8 would have been sweeeet) but you can see how much it could end up costing me to get those types of lenses. I think a wide-angle is next on the purchase list.
