Lost Season 2 Finale (and other TV)

The quality of TV is challenging cinema in a big way right now, especially from networks like HBO and ABC. High production values, excellent characters and brilliant story-arcs are making their presence known in a market flooded with cheap, reality-shows. And when Hollywood is pumping out crappier and crappier films each and every year, it’s good to know that there are forms of high-quality entertainment still out there to discover and enjoy. Whether that be on your loungeroom TV, downloaded through the Internet the very next day it has been broadcast or watching it on your iPod:

Lost (Season 2)
So ends another season of Lost. The double-episode finale was just as exciting as the season 1 finale and many secrets were revealed and new discoveries were reached. I don’t want to spoil the show for those who haven’t got this far but let’s just say we do find out why the plane crashed onto the island as well finding out a little more about characters we’ve been introduced to before on the show. Overall, this season has had it’s highlights but I preferred season 1 myself. Season 1 left us on an amazing cliffhanger. The season 2 finale wraps things up a little more but there is a coda that should bring about some interesting discussion. Season 3 kicks off in October.

Sopranos (Season 6)
With one more episode of Season 6 of The Sopranos left, this season has been anything but dull. But when most of us expected some sort of showdown with the FBI or the mob families, creator David Chase throws every expectation out the window and introduces more surreal, dream-like episodes with deep religious undertones, gay mobsters, minimal violence and some of the best comedic moments in Sopranos history. My prediction is season 6 is the calm before the storm, so season 7 (8 episodes to begin in January 2007) will see a much heaviler involvement of the FBI and the Jersey families colliding and coming to a showdown. Of course, I was wrong with my season 6 prediction so…..

Deadwood (Season 1)
Okay I’ve just started getting into this Western-drama series (thanks to JR who recommended it) but if you love the HBO staple diet of heavy violence, sex and coarse language (and who doesn’t :D ) along with top-notch performances, scripts and production design, you’ll end up loving this series as much as I am. Typically, I’m not a big fan of Westerns which is why I resisted taking the plunge with Deadwood, but I can’t recommend this series highly enough. The 3rd (and final) season is to premiere on June 11th (same day as the new season of Entoruage) so if you haven’t checked this awesome show out, it’s time you did.

Hey there James! So glad you got to see Deadwood. Like you, I was never a fan of western’s but the hype surrounding Deadwood was just too overwhelming for me to ignore. When I first watched it, I just could not stop watching episode after episode. You’re really gonna love the whole Deadwood experience. Some good eps coming up. Enjoy!
