Several Fevers At Once!

If you’ve been wondering why I haven’t updated for over a week, I wish I could tell you it’s because I got on a plane to Germany to watch the Socceroo’s continue to amaze at the World Cup.
Unfortunately the one thing to knock me off my feet for a good 6 days hasn’t been the World Cup. I’ve been bedridden for the past 6 days trying to beat what has gone into the hoover record books as the worst flu I’ve ever had. Headaches, sweats, high fevers, shivers, body aches and pains, and to top it off, a nasty chest infection that had me struggling to breathe (and sleep) for a good 4 days. Nice. Taking every medication the doctors threw at me, my flu decided to give them the two fingers and continue to cause lots of uncomfortableness and unpleasantness. Finally, this afternoon I’ve been feeling better and the chest infection is slowly getting its arse kicked. If there is such thing as an uber-flu, then I had it. I recommend anyone who doesn’t want to get the same to get yourself a flu vaccine because this ‘uber-flu’ will own you for days and days and there’s nothing you can do about it except try and rest it out.
While sick I did manage to catch a few soccer matches in the early hours (albiet bits and pieces), of course watching the Brazil Vs Australia match and the Croatia Vs Australia one this morning. The referee in that one completely lost the plot by the end of the match didn’t he? That had to be one of the most tense matches of the World Cup I’ve seen so far. The best goal I’ve seen would have to be in the Argentina Vs Serbia and Montenegro match a week ago, with some of the best ball skills you’ll ever see. See it here. This is WHY soccer is the world game - class, tactics, smarts and a payoff that no other sport can rival.
Finally, to end the week of ‘fevers’ my DELL 2407FPW monitor arrived late yesterday (after a 2 week delay mind you!). This 24 inch LCD monitor is a thing of geek beauty. 1920 x 1200 resolution with a DVI connection, HD ready and things are looking pretty damn hot, especially using Photoshop, editing photos, video content and watching DVDs! Having the 9-in-1 card reader built-in on the side is much more convenient (and faster) than constantly plugging the camera into the computer too. I got a decent price for mine and they currently have $350 off online at the moment. If you’re looking into the Apple displays, the Dells carry the exact same tube so the difference is negligible. The real noticable difference is the price and when you’re nearly looking at $1000 difference for a 23-inch Apple display, it’s an easy choice. One very happy customer here!

Sorry to hear about your flu James. I had that very same one a little earlier this year, was pure hell! So get well soon!
The soccer game today was agonizing. The Aussies have had the raw end of the refs all tournament it seems. Today’s match was bizarre but so thankful the boys have moved onto the next round!
Cheers JR. I remember you posting about that on your flickr page a while back and going through hell.
I’m on the mend now luckily, enough to enjoy the new monitor at least :D
The monitor looks a real doozy! My former biz partner has the 20″ model and is super-happy with it. The 24″ looks magnificent.
Bird Flu? Somehow I doubt it. You’re just a victim of partying too hard! I’m not convinced of LCD for home theatre movies, but a good one for PC use must be dreamy. How’s the grey scales…equal to CRT?
Sorry to disappoint you there Rod but I’ve been anything but a victim of partying too hard! I’ll leave the partying up to you since you seem to be out on the town every night of the week! (well according to your blog)
Grey scales are pretty damn impressive with the monitor. It has heaps of inputs but I generally just use the DVI connection with the computer DVD player. Because the res is so high (1920 x 1200) sometimes the DVDs look kinda average so I’d love to see how HDDVDs would shape up on it.
Latest scuttlebutt says that HD DVD looks better than Blu Ray. A review quote told to me by a friend: “On Blu Ray it looked more like House of Flying Artefacts“.
