Cars
Cars
(2006)

Much better than the trailers would have you believe, Cars is another hit from Pixar. Their emphasis on story and character continues to reign the active ingredient and so far, so good. I really enjoyed myself here and for pure entertainment value, Cars ranks as one of the best American popcorn summer movies of 2006 so far. While it might not be on par with the majority of the other Pixar films (To put this into perspective, I rank them as follows: Finding Nemo, A Bug’s Life, Monsters Inc, The Incredibles, Cars, Toy Story, Toy Story 2), it’s still miles ahead of the competition in terms of animation, storytelling and execution. Visually, it’s an achievement in itself to animate a car and give it life and character. But veteran Pixar director and founder John Lasseter is a master for a reason – he more or less nails it. The only aspect that could have used some work is the originality of the story because Pixar continue to play it safe in that respect. Kids won’t care too much (they are the target audience after all) but older kids would probably like to see them challenge themselves a little more. They certainly have the cash now to take chances.

If I have one weakness, it’s rock chicks. I fall in love them at the drop of a hat. The harder they rock, the harder I fall too. I get like that scene in High Fidelity:

Barry: I wanna date a musician.
Rob Gordon: I wanna live with a musician. She’d write songs at home and ask me what I thought of them, and maybe even include one of our little private jokes in the liner notes.
Barry: Maybe a little picture of me in the liner notes.
Dick: Just in the background somewhere.
