Miami Vice Soundtrack

Time to get out the white jackets and the pink T’s because Michael Mann’s reimagining of his own cult 80’s TV Show ‘Miami Vice’ has just been released in the States and in typical Mann fashion, features an awesome soundtrack. Pastel clothing free too :)
I’ve been iTuning this all day and if you’re a fan of the Collateral soundtrack, you’ll probably love this too. Mann runs the fine line of producing a ‘cool’ soundtrack and a plain cheesy one. Nonpoint’s version of Phil Collins “In The Air Tonight” is EXACTLY what you’d expect from a post-Collateral Mann musical mindset. Heavier guitar and lots of drums (hear the track here). While not as classic as the original, it’s still an OK cover. Not a fan of that metal guitar but I guess it does evoke an 80’s feel.
The Mogwai tracks fit perfectly and sticking Goldfrapp’s ‘Strict Machine’ was a touch of genius. The Moby track I could take or leave though. Whilst ‘God Moving Over the Face of Water’ was brilliantly used in Mann’s Heat, here it’s not as effective. At least from a listening standpoint. It might work better in context with the movie. Which is out August 10th here. Can’t wait.
