Snakes on da Muthaf%@*!$# Plane!

So you’re all probably sick to death of Samuel L. Jackson talking this film up already. I mean, it hasn’t even been released, has a huge word-of-Internet-mouth going for it despite no-one actually having seen it and there are no media screenings prior to the release date (US: August 18th, Australia: August 24th). Generally this means the film sucks and this film needs to have enough camp and cheesy action fun to be worthy of all the hype and go down as a cult favourite. Seriously, if this film is complete shit and not in the ’so bad it’s good’ category, but just plain craphola, then the cult status will be removed.
However, Aint-it-cool-news recently posted an interview with Jackson who gave us perhaps one of the greatest movie star quotes of the 21st century:
QUINT(interviewer): Great. Because if I was in the audience for SNAKES ON A PLANE and just saw a parade of reaction shots I’d be pissed.
SAMUEL L. JACKSON: No! Hell, no! You want the snake hit! You want to see it. You have two people goin’ to screw in a bathroom on a plane and you know that there are some snakes on there… you know that when that tit comes out, you want to see a snake on that tit! At some point you gonna go, “Man, I know a snake’s going to show up somewhere… and hopefully that snake’s going to be on that tit!”
Now if that right there doesn’t convince you to get your ass on the cinema seat on the 18th or 24th, then nothing will! And as long as Jackson says “We got Snakes on the muthafuckin’ plane!” Pulp Fiction-style and delivery, I am sold. Definitely after a few cold ones beforehand too :)
DVD Collection

Not too many I know… and kind of a sad collection for being such a film buff. But hey - I blame my 80’s upbringing on cheesy movies.
I kinda got bored of buying DVDs after they initially came onto the market and only buy something now unless I think it will get decent amounts of re-watches.
Planet Earth

ABC just finished screening a breathtaking documentary series on Sunday nights called Planet Earth. From the makers of The Blue Planet, this BBC production narrated by David Attenborough, with a budget of roughly £40 million and shot on glorious HD, the 5-episode first half of the series will be available to buy on DVD next Thursday the 17th of August. Unfortunately it won’t be in true HD of course but it’ll still look amazing. The second half of episodes will screen later on in the year and I cannot wait. Educational and exceptionally shot (by far, some of the best cinematography I have ever seen!), this is one of those documentaries you need to see on a big ass plasma or LCD TV with HD capabilities for the full impact.
I also watched the other amazing series Life in the Undergrowth on ABC a few weeks back and with the incredible technology at documentarian fingertips, we are really treated to see things never captured previously on film. The glow worm cave in Waitomo, New Zealand for example makes you want to drop what you’re doing and visit immediately. Actually… I might just…
