Casino Royale (2006)
What a kick in the ass Casino Royale is to the Bond franchise. No more wise cracks (well hardly any), no Q, and no campy action sequences involving dodgy waterskiing on fake CG waves and Bond pulling his tie, every time he gets out of a tight spot. This is a brutal Bond film, where the fights hurt and the drama plays more intense. Kudos for bringing back Goldeneye helmer Martin Campbell because the man knows how to direct action and leave us on the edge of our seats. The opening sequence has to be one of the best and thrilling I’ve seen in years! Daniel Craig is perfect as Bond, perhaps the best Bond ever – dark, arrogant, determined yet vulnerable. Eva Green brings a great deal of beauty and compassion as the only woman who can get under Bonds thick skin. The only slight nitpick I have with the film is that it runs a little long, particularly towards the end. I guess it had to for the sake of the Bond character but there were a few moments where I was saying to myself “End the film already!”. But that’s a VERY small nitpick of definitely the best adult action film of the year. Bring on the new Bond for the 21st century!
Fasterlouder Xmas Party
The Melbourne Fasterlouder christmas party was last night at Ding Dong. JJJ favourites The Dukes of Windsor were on the bill amongst others. Didn’t see that many other FL photographers there but I did meet the Melbourne editor Justine who was very cool. I couldn’t help myself to remind her of all the BDO sideshows I want to cover too :D

Wall-E
Ultimately charming and heart-warming Pixar effort is a sheer delight from start to finish. Homage's to 2001, E.T and all your favourite childhood Sci-Fi movies are plentiful and just to realise so much emotion from an animated robot that hardly talks throughout the entire movie is a feat in itself. The Blu-ray version will be stunning!
