Kuala Lumpur Trip

Heading off overseas tomorrow for 10 days to teach video production at the Kuala Lumpur campus. Oh how they will suffer! During this time, Hooverdust will turn into a travel blog of sorts. Most likely, a travel photo blog as I will hopefully post shots of delicious food, nightlife and the culture. Bon voyage!
Affordable Arts Show

Travelled along to the opening night of the Affordable Arts Show at the Royal Exhibition Centre last night. Managed to get free tickets and along with that came the free booze. Always a good thing. The art on display is vast and everything is available to buy at reasonable prices. My favourite pieces were the Cuban art and the montage of people parachuting. That piece of art was sold early and for good reason.
I didn’t take any pictures of the art specifically on display since I think that’s disrespectful to the artists but sometimes you forget just how amazing the Exhibition Centre is. I used to have exams in there and it was always nice to walk in there and appreciate the architecture. So I took a few photos of the place (with ‘merry’ friends in frame).
Grindhouse IS split in Australia!

Fuckety, fuckety, fuck! And not only that, but it won’t be released on May 10th! According to Empire Online Australia, the grindhouse film experience will be no more and ‘Planet Terror’ and ‘Death Proof’ are likely to get a release “…some other day some time after (May 10th)”.
Judging from the abysmal 2nd weekend takings, I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t get a straight to DVD release at this rate. But I doubt Harvey Weinstein will release any DVDs until he’s split the films in the US (surely that’s gonna happen now) and let them have their run. The potential unfortunate thing about that is those thinking “Fuck Aussie distributors! I’ll just buy the US DVD!” will have to wait quite a while. But who knows? Right now - the fate of Grindhouse is anyone’s guess. But just know it will be split here in Australia and the first film to get released (most likely ‘Planet Terror’ - Rodriguez’s film) is currently sitting on the tba release date shelf.
