Yura Yura Teikoku & The Basics

My first gig in a while and a nice return to the scene. With Gotye (aka Wally De Backer) recently announcing a tour with a 9 piece mini-orchestra, I figured I’d go and see his other band The Basics and some psychedelic rock/pop from Japan courtesy of Yura Yura Teikoku at the East Brunswick Club.
Yura Yura Teikoku were electric. The lead singer generated an energy resembling a cross between Jack White (The White Stripes) and Cedric Bixler (The Mars Volta), jumping around stage and clearly being in the moment. Although I had no idea what they were singing about, the music spoke for itself. The Basics are touring around with a few Japanese bands at the moment since they are heading off to Japan themselves to bring their fun and friendly antics abroad.

It was my first time seeing the boys after hearing every other music blogger rave about them over the past year or so (yes I was late to jump onto the bandwagon), I figured it was high time I checked them out.
The show was just …great fun! They played a slowed down version of ‘Lookin’ Over My Shoulder’ that was so funky and enjoyable, it was one of the highlights of the night!
Tintin

In what has been a desired project of Steven Spielberg’s for the past 25 years, he now has the rights and means to make feature films based on the HergĂ© comic series. Furthermore he has teamed up Peter Jackson (and WETA) to produce 3 features using the latest digital 3D performance capture technologies. But don’t expect a live action film. They plan to keep the cartoon look of HergĂ©’s work intact while making things photo-realistic and 3D. Spielberg will direct one of the three films, Jackson another and the last tba. As a big fan of Tintin as a child, this should yield some interesting results, especially from the talent involved. No doubt they will be using technologies similar to those used by Robert Zemeckis on the upcoming Beowulf and James Cameron with Avatar.
Melbourne City Views

Went to this bar last night called the Blue Diamond. Friends were members otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to get in.
I gotta say though, it’s overpriced, badly staffed and pretty much a load of wank. The only good thing was the view which is the reason why I took my camera out :)
