Vincent Moon
With news The National will be hitting our shores in January around the Big Day Out (expect them to be added to the lineup) and playing sideshows (got my tickets!), it’s time to get giddy. One filmmaker who will no doubt fuel the fire for musical delight is Vincent Moon. The french maestro has made over 50 mini-documentaries (or ‘Take Away Shows’) placing musicians such as The Arcade Fire, Andrew Bird, José Gonzaléz, The Shins, Okkervil River and many others into various interesting locations. The uniqueness of it all is quite refreshing and some of the performances are well worth a download. He posts the videos on takeawayshows.com in various high res formats. Great stuff!
And speaking of great stuff, the rumoured BDO lineup is looking pretty tasty this year. Sean states that Bjork, Rage Against the Machine (the Melbourne sideshow sold out in 2 freakin minutes!), Interpol, Queens of the Stone Age, and LCD Soundsystem are some of the acts but if you add The National AND The Arcade Fire into the mix, it could be one of the best BDO’s in years. The official BDO lineup is announced October 2 so make sure you check the official website.
Battles

Saved by fortunate events, I managed to score a last minute ticket to the Battles second sold out show at the East Brunswick Club. Having toured with The Mars Volta, these guys create a huge magnitude of delicious sound. ‘Mirrored’ is a brilliant album, one of 2007’s best and when they performed the 7 minute epic track ‘Atlas’, the crowd soaked it up into a frenzy. More please!
Parklife 2007

I’ve already vented enough about Parklife for me as a photographer on my flickr page so I won’t go into it in detail again here. But for the uninitiated, the media pass I received didn’t grant me access to the photo pits so I had to shoot everything from a distance. I wasn’t happy. However, despite the disgruntled photographer in me, it looks like everyone else had an absolute blast. Great weather, good crowds and lots of fluoro!
