Custom T-Shirts

Custom T - Battles
Custom T- Battles
After going to various stores throughout Melbourne trying to find decent t-shirts, I decided I couldn’t find many that I liked and if I did, it wouldn’t fit properly. There’s so many of these so called ‘arty’ t-shirts around that look like a 5th grader conducted a rather large, unattractive squiggle on them and frankly, they do nothing for me. Online stores isn’t a great option either because it’s difficult to know the exact sizes but at least you get some cooler designs. And I must point out the I Love Your T-Shirt blog. They put me onto one of these t’s.

So after constantly being disappointed what’s on offer in the stores, I got off my arse and designed my own. I found a reasonably cheap screenprinting place that does a good job and uses good quality cotton t’s. The t’s also wash well so I’m definitely going to get a few more personalised designs done in preparation for summer. The pic on the front of the above is one of my own. This is my second custom job so far and I’m pretty happy with the results. Okay so I might not be a great t-shirt designer but they work for me.

The first has my new Hooverdust logo printed on it and will be revealed when I launch the new blog design soon :)

Josh Pyke

Josh Pyke
Last Friday night was a very fun night and it started with quite the special gig at the Forum to see Josh Pyke. The Aussie singer/songwriter has no shortage of fans and it was evident when he spoke of the turnout being one of his biggest. I must be one of the last Australian musical bloggers to discover him since I was only recently informed about him through a fellow music fan and have been listening to his earlier EP Feeding The Wolves quite regularly as of late. He doesn’t use write complex arrangements or lyrics, just likable and honest music. His recent record Memories and Dust is also quite good but I still favour the earlier EP. Surrounded with a smallish string section and a great backdrop, standout performances included ‘Fill You In’ and ‘Feeding The Wolves’. He was supported by Whitley and 78 Saab. Pyke also took home the award for best adult contemporary album at last night’s Arias. Clearly the man is on fire and I look forward to seeing what he’ll come up with next.

Again, I didn’t take my camera since I wasn’t there to take photos so I’ve used one of Mathew Packer’s great pics above (from another gig mind you. I couldn’t find any from that night’s gig). Check out Mathew’s impressive flickr stream. Another great Aussie music photographer.

Heima Australian Premiere

Heima
Ah well crap. Missed out on tickets to the premiere of the Sigur Rós new documentary film ‘Heima’. Tickets were $72 for a short acoustic set by the band followed by the film which is kinda pricey but would have been a pretty special experience never-the-less, especially at the amazing Forum theatre. The film has been getting a lot of praise too so hopefully it gets a theatrical run somewhere in Melbourne (if anyone knows, post a comment). But the DVD should be equally great too (especially a HD version) with a projector :) DVD is out on November 5th in 2 editions. Click here for Australian details and pricing.

Be sure to check out their relatively new photoblog too. Some stunning images in there. Of course the Heima trailer in HD looks great if you haven’t already downloaded it.
