Big group shot!

Ruth and Greg's Wedding
I turned wedding photographer for a day on the weekend. I shot it for a friend of my sisters up in Daylesford. It was the perfect time of the year because it’s incredibly green up there and despite the raining falling seconds after the ceremony finished, it was a lovely day for the couple. The trickiest part I found was getting the bride and groom portraits under the shitty conditions (it was raining by then and dark under the trees). I can’t imagine I will be shooting another wedding anytime soon and quite frankly, I’d rather be the informal photographer than the formal one. It’s a long, quite tedious day.

Thanks Lucky! I think you’re being a little too kind but I appreciate the words of encouragement.

I’m seriously considering getting to the 40D or 5D though since the auto-focus is rather shite on the 350D.

i guess you’re setting pretty high standards.. were your friends happy with the shots?

the 40D’s AF is much nicer than the 350D. i don’t know how i lived with the 350 for as long as i did. i paid $1400 for my 40D with shipping and sold my 350 to a friend for $500 which is a little lower than you’d be able to get if you were to sell it. if you want to know more details, send me an email.

if you want a 5D, i’d wait another 6 months or so, i’ve heard on good authority the new 5D Mk II or 6D or whatever you want to call it will be out making the 5D a little cheaper.

The couple are still on their honeymoon so they’ll get to see the shots when they return. I’ve had a few people say positive things about the shots so I’m starting to feel better about it.

Re: The 40D. Yeah I’ve heard the auto-focus is much better so I think I will sell my 350D and upgrade. I’ve seen the 5D for as low as $2500 brand new which is pretty cheap and the main reason for getting that model is the full-frame sensor. But still, two or so grand is probably stretching my camera budget right now so the 40D looks like a pretty sweet temptation.

As I am chief bridesmaid in a wedding in February, I am seeing lots and LOTS of wedding photos from real weddings.

James, I must tell you these are gorgeous! The attention to detail is what often makes looking at a album after the event interesting for those that weren’t there. You have captured special moments here. A real sense of the couple and what the mood of the day was like.

Is the rest of the set up on Flickr? Must check. Pretty sure I have you as a contact
