Broken Social Scene @ The Corner
Apparently, when Broken Social Scene are hot, they cannot be topped. Wednesday night’s performance was not one of them. The band weren’t in the best of moods before the show began, Feist and Amy Millan (from Stars) were nowhere to be seen since they had other solo commitments around the country and the band stopped and started a few times. When I spoke to a couple of huge fans of the band, they weren’t overly impressed with the performance. This being my first time, I didn’t know what to expect but I didn’t mind what I was hearing. Luckily the band will return sooner rather than later and we’ll get to see the full force that is Broken Social Scene. More photos here and here. And a much better Melbourne review here.

The mighty Okkervil River played The Corner on Tuesday night and this being my second time, I was equally blown away by their professionalism and musicianship. I think all bands strive to be as tight and exciting as these boys and although I still enjoy Black Sheep Boy over the new album, we got a great setlist playing tracks from both albums plus some golden oldies. I love hearing Westfall and they finished off the gig with a kick-ass performance. Greatness indeed! More photos here and here.
