Kevin Smith Interviews
A bunch of fantastic interviews (9 segments on total) with Kevin Smith including some very real discussions on being a filmmaker, the curse of Chasing Amy, the dark (and bright) side of the Internet. The man comes across as a humble filmmaker, a guy who knows he’s not a born filmmaker but loves movies and loves to express himself cinematically.
It’s clear we’re seeing a guy who has changed as a human too, with getting married and having kids and how his taste for cinema has changed along with that growth process. This is something that inevitably happens with us film lovers is we watch a movie when we’re in our teens, love it to pieces. Then we hit our mid to late twenties and when life starts to take over, sometimes our perspectives change and so does our taste. Sure that might sound like a generalisation and it won’t apply for everyone but it appears that way for Smith.
Personally, I’ve said on the site before that I’ve always admired Smith for making films the way he wants to and he’s gotten the chance to do that. Such a small percentage of film students go onto making any kind of feature length film the way THEY want to do it and he’s done eight so he’s certainly gained my respect. Oh and his favourite Hollywood movie is Jaws. A few more video’s below and more on YouTube in the right-side bar.
Terminator Salvation Score Letdown
No Brad Fiedel theme’s in the official soundtrack although I hear they’re in the film. Sorry but can you imagine a Jaws or Star Wars film without the key themes throughout? Samples via Cinemusic.
Chris Cunningham’s Gucci Flora Ad
Whilst we have to wait a while for Chris Cunningham to get off his lazy arse and make an exceptional feature film, he’s been busy creating music and this new ad for Gucci ‘Flora’. Shot over four days in Latvia during July last year, the film’s field was created using more than 20,000 fake flowers. Also best to watch in YouTube’s HD quality if you watch it on YouTube directly.
Chris added a lot to the original idea, making the whole project more majestic and cinematic. We strive to give as much creative space as possible to great directors that are involved in our projects so we avoid setting limitations at the outset. Chris developed the initial storyboard by adding his own principles and aesthetics.
He also remixed Donna Summer’s ‘I Feel Love’ with his unique musical interpretation. And is that Natalie Portman’s voice at the end?
