HBO will be back in full swing with this new series Boardwalk Empire from Terence Winter (who wrote many episodes of The Sopranos) and Martin Scorsese. Scorsese directs the pilot but many of the behind-the-scenes people from The Sopranos are involved so I’m really excited about this. Plus Steve Buscemi stars so you know it’s going to be worthwhile viewing.

Fresh off Apple’s HD trailer channel is the trailer for Sofia Coppola’s next feature Somewhere. It looks fantastic, conveys that sense of dislocation and elevated reality Coppola gives us in all her prior films and her husbands band Phoenix throw in their wonderful French poptastic sounds. Stephen Dorff looks suitably cast as the hard-living Hollywood actor who gets a surprise visit from his 11-year old daughter (Elle Fanning). I’m a huge Sofia fan so this will be a must-see.

No spoilers within this post

Ahhhh well its been six years, countless moments of exhilaration and frustration, but the end is here and so far, responses have been mixed. Typically however the negative responses have stemmed from a one-note explanation but if you’ve followed the show carefully, it goes much deeper than that. Personally, for me, this is the perfect conclusion to the show. It ties up character arcs, brings everything together from day one and shows the writers had a plan from the very beginning.

For non-fans, please start from the beginning and work your way through because it’s completely worth it and the finale won’t make any sense at all coming in blind. For us fans, I recommend checking out my favourite LOST podcast The Transmission with Ryan and Jen. They give their initial reactions and some insight into the more complex themes. It’s emotional, it’s well delivered and a nice coda to the series as a whole.
