Oscars Wrap-Up

Well it was most definitely a big snoozer last night, although no real surprises there. The Oscars are always laborious and drawn-out and last night was no exception. Ellen fizzled as a host and I really felt bad for her. Those shadow human puppets were pointless, Celine Dion just plain scary, and the entire thing looked cheap compared to every other year (although that probably had something to do with everything been ‘green’ this year).

2006 Oscar Predictions 


Have your betting cash handy? Cause it’s Oscar night Monday and as per usual, I will throw in my predictions. I’ve seen all but one of the films nominated for Best Film but knowing the way the Academy has worked in the past, it’s not hard to predict films you haven’t seen that will probably win the selected award. In the other categories, I’m going out on major limbs because I really haven’t seen shit this year. But this is more movie-geek fun than anything else because everyone knows the Oscars mean fuck all in terms of how good the actual movies are. Remember “Forrest Gump” winning in 1994? You’re telling me that’s a better film than “Pulp Fiction”? Come on!

Saw History of Violence last night (starstarstarstar_empty), Brokeback Mountain (starstarstarstar_empty) a couple of weeks back. Both films I liked but feel slightly overpraised.
